Lavinia lost weight for the LAST time
Name: Lavinia
Age: 34
Start weight: 154lbs
End/Current weight: 139lbs
1 – Tell me about your previous dieting attempts
Unlike many that join Munro, I didn’t have a complex or lengthy diet history; previously, I have pretty much maintained a reasonably consistent weight throughout.
In 2018, I had a mental health breakdown, and the weight piled on over 6 months. I went from being a size 8 to a top-end size 16. I was under the Mental Health Act in the hospital, so I was in a pretty dark place.
My Mum was worried about my dramatic weight gain and encouraged me to join Slimming World (when I was out of the hospital and starting to feel a little more stable). I didn’t really stay around long because it was making me feel worse when we would have the public weigh-ins, I was told I was a ‘slow loser’, and I felt I wasn’t making any progress. I’m glad I didn’t stick around there after all the horror stories I have heard since.
I got to the point where I was getting sick of my new established size; I didn’t recognize myself and felt I had lost my identity. I wanted to do something about it, and my mental health was improving, so I was ready to do something. I bought Joe Wicks/The Bodycoach’s 90 days plan in July 2020 and did that through to October 2020. I made some progress and later bought the Body Coach App in April 2021.
2 – What was it you hoped Munro would do for you?
Following the Body Coach Plan, I realized that my relationship with food wasn’t doing so well. I would feel guilty if I had anything ‘off plan’. To the point where I wouldn’t put any extra veggies on my plate cause it wasn’t on the plan. Plus, my boyfriend wanted to cook a lovely wholesome/healthy chicken stew, and I didn’t want him to cook it because I felt it was going ‘off plan’. I felt I needed extra education about food and not just blindly following a plan to the letter.
I also felt the added 1-2-1 support that Jason offers in his Facebook group would really help, compared to getting no individual support from a massive plan like the Body coach.
3 – How did you hear about Munro?
I saw a lady called @Project_Macp often talking about her journey with Munro on Instagram. I started following Jason on IG, and I really liked the content. I started recognizing that a more tailored approach would probably really help me. I decided to sign up for the Christmas Challenge he was running in Dec 2021.
4 – What made us stand out from everything else out there?
I chatted with Jason via IG DM regarding the Xmas Challenge; I don’t have a lot of spare cash to play around with, and I wanted to invest wisely. I wanted to get good value for money. He seemed to have a good balance of 1-2-1 support but also at a reasonable price due to the way it’s delivered through their group-coaching program.
I really enjoyed his straight-talking approach on IG.
5 – Did anything about our approach almost put you off from joining?
Not at all.
6 – What made you bite the bullet and sign up to work with us?
The fact that Jason took the time and personally replied to my message on IG before joining and answered all my questions and concerns I had before I signed up really helped me. You don’t get such a personal touch from a big plan like the Body Coach.
7 – What made you happiest about being a Clan member?
The fact that you know you have someone in your pocket cheering you on and is only a message away was excellent. It was terrific having really detailed feedback via video.
Jason really cares about you as an individual, and that shines through. You are not just a source of income; Jason loves his job and helping his clients and gives his best in all of this work.
Some of the Daily Posts inside Clan Munro have really impacted me in a massive way and not only apply to weight loss but to life in general; I feel Munro has been a form of life coaching for me (often better than life coaching too, as he is highly qualified and experienced in what he does). A place to keep me accountable, someone to help me achieve my goals and to help me work on my mindset not just towards weight loss but to life in general.
8 – What have you achieved as a Clan-member?
I think I now have a better relationship with food. I have created high-value goals, and the weight loss is just a byproduct of how I want to live my life.
I made a list as part of an exercise Jason asks (he asks all his members at the very first check-in).
The question Jason asked was:
Why do I want to lose weight?
- To have miles more energy Have more confidence/self-esteem.
- Be fit and healthy again (I am the fittest I have been all of my life, and it is a healthy fitness too, where I am kind to myself)
- To live longer
- To get my identity back.
- To be identified with being fit again.
- To put effort into me again – be proud of me and my efforts.
- Become a better person
With the help of Jason’s support, I have achieved all the above and much more!
9 – What has exceeded your expectations since working with us?
I don’t need to diet ever again! I have learnt the skills required to maintain my weight. I am also kinder to myself.
10 – Why would you recommend us to others?
Jason has your back 100%; he supports you through any wobbles you may have. He is a sounding board for all your thoughts along your journey. He has the most beautiful ways of communicating and getting you to a point where you re-frame your negative thinking.
One question I always loved at check-in was: ‘what is of the highest priority to YOU right now. Is it fat loss, or is something else more important right now? If so, put it on a back-burner until you feel it is back to a high priority again.
I was in the process of moving house in January. Jason recommended that I come away from fat loss being a priority, as I had so many other things going on in my life at that moment. He recommended I spend some time maintaining it. This technique taught me to be kinder to myself with weight loss. It doesn’t have to be a race; you can take the pressure off yourself when needed. It was a great lesson for me.
11 – Was there anything about Munro that surprised you the most?
Jason is great at showing you how you use language in describing yourself and your actions. He is so good at looking at something you say from a completely different angle, breaking it down into great detail, and examining what you mean, where you think about it in great detail yourself, rather than just saying one-word answers at check-in.
I feel really touched by the relationship I developed with Jason. It really helps you to re-frame your thinking process.
He challenges you where required. It’s not just a weight loss journey, it was a form of deep personal reflection for myself, and he was there every step of the way.
When people now say to me, ‘Oh, I can’t have that. I am on a diet, I think to myself, oh wow, I am so glad I don’t have that mentality anymore! I don’t feel constrained with my food, and my relationship with food is now fab!
12 – What would you tell someone thinking about joining us?
My weight loss was so hard when I was on a solo journey. I found myself feeling exasperated at times with my progress. With Munro, it was different; Jason is there for you, he supports you, and he wants the best for you. He is in your pocket, always cheering you on!
Once I followed his recommended steps, it became easy for me to lose weight. I enjoyed the process. His company and ethos aren’t a fad diet, or for him to make a fast buck, he has so much knowledge, and he detoxes your mind from all the bullshit out there that is in the dieting industry.
Don’t let the initial part of tracking put you off from joining Munro and collecting the data needed for check-ins. It can seem a lot at first, but it gets easier. Jason guides you through every stage and keeps you from tracking and weighing yourself regularly. I now only weigh myself every now and then to keep an eye on things, which is so liberating. I also don’t track my calories anymore.
13 – How confident are you that you can now take everything you’ve learned during your time with us to go on and maintain the results you’ve achieved?
I have been hesitant to complete this testimonial, as I wanted to be 100% sure I could answer this question with absolutely no doubts. It has been 5 months since I left Munro, and I have successfully maintained my weight for ten months in total; I can hand on my heart say I have learnt the skills to maintain my weight. Not only has Jason helped me with my weight loss, he massively helped me to improve my own mental health. It feels so wonderful being back to myself.
