Kerry lost 3 Stone
Kerry’s Testimonial
Real-life stories and experiences from our Munro Method Graduates1 – Tell me about your previous dieting attempts
I started my first proper diet when I was 15/16. My mum was constantly dieting, so I was always very aware of my body. I had a bum and hips from my early teenage years and stood out amongst other girls for that reason – I didn’t conform to society’s standard then. When I was 13/14, I started swapping my meals for cereals such as Weetabix or the good old Special K diet. I even remember joining the local gym when I was 15 and trying out the Atkins Diet for a while. I joined Weight Watchers when I was 16, and this is where my vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting began. I remember going on a summer holiday when I was 18 and thought I hadn’t lost enough weight at WW, and I was fat a month before going, so for those next four weeks, I lived on 2 Slimfast shakes per day, one main meal. I don’t remember how much weight I lost, but I remember that I got drunk on two drinks on a night out because there was nothing in my stomach. Fast forward to starting University and gaining a few fresher pounds. Next up to try out was Slimming World – not a good idea for someone with binge tendencies. They told me to eat as much free food as I wanted, and that I did – resulting in no losses. I fell pregnant at 19 and gained a lot of weight. By the time Lucas was born, I was 15 and a half stone (217 lbs). I knew I needed to do something, so back to WW, I went again. Yes, I lost weight but once again, with no nutrition knowledge. My weigh day would be a Tuesday – I’d weigh in that morning, then spend the rest of that day and maybe even into the Wednesday binging on all the foods I’d been depriving myself of. I’d restrict for a few days and then fall off the wagon again on Saturday/Sunday, leading to massive restrictions on Monday, even taking laxatives before bed on a Monday night in fear of being judged if I didn’t have a loss on the scales on Tuesday. I lost a total of 3.5 stone, became a gold member, stopped going to weigh-ins and slowly but surely regained weight. So back I would go again as a paying member, drop the stone or so I had gained, back to gold weight, stopped weighing, regained, so back I went again. The vicious cycle kept going – I could not maintain my loss because I didn’t know how to do it. I fell into a horrible place – trying all sorts of diet pills from the internet, fat burner stacks from local bodybuilders (🙈), literally anything I thought would maximise my weight loss. I was desperate. My mental health was falling apart, but the one thing I could control was the food I ate and how much exercise I put myself through. I was getting smaller and smaller, but I couldn’t see it – to me, I was still that bigger girl. I first joined Munro in April 2018 – I checked in a few times between then and October 2018 and eventually disappeared off the radar. I didn’t have the patience or the right mindset to succeed then. I wanted to have a sensible diet, but I also wanted to see huge losses, and you can’t get that without using an extreme and dangerous approach. I floated my way between different PTs and different versions of these restrictive diets – clearly still not realising that these do not work long-term; I could never stick at them. I got married in July 2019 and was happy with how I looked on the day, but I had failed to reach the weight loss target I had set myself – at the time, I was annoyed, but looking back now, I can see nothing wrong with how I looked on the day. Enough was enough; I was so unhappy. My mental health wasn’t great, and I despised what I saw in the mirror. I knew I needed to make changes, but this time lifelong changes. Once lockdown hit, I knew with the extra time at home, this was my opportunity to finally nail these habits and transform my life – and there was only one group of people who could help me do that, Munro Nutrition. So on 29th March, I reached out to the coaches, reposted my starting stats on 2nd April, started tracking on Monday 6th April, and the rest is history!2 – What was it you hoped Munro would do for you?
When I officially restarted Munro in April 2020, I wanted to reignite my passion and motivation to become a healthier version of myself. I wanted education around nutrition and developing new habits to move away from my old ones. I wanted to be motivated to track my calories and macros. I wanted to improve my relationship with food – at the time, I thought I needed to get rid of my “sweet tooth” to do this, but I soon realised my sweet tooth wasn’t the problem. I wanted to be healthier and learn to love my body again. I wanted to fit into my old clothes that hadn’t fitted in many years. I hoped to end the restrict and binge cycle once and for all!3 – How did you hear about Munro?
I initially came across Munro through Instagram. I was looking for the next quick fix, which I didn’t get, so I sacked it off for a few years before I realised that 16 years of quick fixes never worked before, and it wouldn’t work now. Now was the time to look at a long-term change and improvement to my life, and I felt The Munro Method was the approach to help me with that.4 – What made us stand out from everything else out there?
In all honesty, it was just the next quick fix initially, but what drew me back was seeing others’ successes within the group – I’d been watching a few members on Instagram. Also, Jason’s Instagram content drew me back in again. Knowing that accountability with a no-fluff attitude was what I needed, and this was exactly where I could find that.5 – Did anything about our approach almost put you off from joining?
Nothing stands out except being scared to reach out a 2nd time for fear of being judged, but that never happened and never would at Munro. So I urge anyone else feeling that fear to bite the bullet, write the post, and I promise you will not regret it!6 – What made you happiest about being a Clan member?
The best thing for me is the support from other members. We genuinely are members of the same Clan – we have each other’s backs and are cheering each other on our journeys. I have made friends that I would never have made if I hadn’t joined the group.
I love the Daily Posts – a daily reminder and knowledge boost. I love the live chats – I rarely attend them when live, but I love being able to go back and rewatch them. The wealth of knowledge available on the lives and daily posts is second to none.
Absolutely priceless and worth a lot more than we could ever pay in a month. The in-depth replies to every check-in from real coaches – no generic bullshit here. Coaches who care about you and are interested in your life beyond the facts and figures. Coaches who are genuine and to the point but also empathetic to each of our individual circumstances. I don’t care what anyone says, but you will need to go to the end of the Earth and beyond to find a better setup than the Munro Method 💚
7 – What have you achieved as a Clan member?
I no longer deprive myself of any food. The foods I eat every day are foods that I love and want to eat – not what I’m being told I HAVE to eat.
Because of this, that restrict and binge cycle I was stuck in for so many years is gone.
The freedom around food choices has been so liberating. I no longer have a poor relationship with food – it’s just food, it fuels my body, and that’s it.
I no longer have a poor relationship with the scales – I weigh myself, and that number has no impact on my actions that day. I record it and move on – whereas if scales were up, I’d restrict myself, or if they were down, I’d reward myself with some treats that day.
All that is gone; it is just data and one of many methods of tracking progress – nothing more.
8 – What has exceeded your expectations since working with us?
I am different – not just outside but, most importantly, inside. My mindset has completed 180 – I am now such a positive person. I have spent time developing habits and routines which will stick with me for the rest of my life.
My sister always says to me how much I have changed. I would always say I haven’t time to walk or get steps in – now, I would rarely miss a day.
Again, I didn’t have time to weigh and track food – just a pathetic excuse and something I’d never miss now. I used to use excuses for everything when, in fact, they just weren’t a priority at the time, but now if something is a priority to me, then I will always find the time to do it.
I am so much more confident as a person – sharing my own story on Instagram and not giving a fuck what others think about it. If my story resonates with at least one person well, my job is done. I used to be so worried about what people thought about me, afraid to say I was dieting cause people would be thinking, “Oh, here we go again”, but now I do not care. I finally understand that no matter what you do, someone will have a problem, so do whatever makes you happy, not someone else.
9 – What advice would you give someone on the fence about joining us?
Just do it. Stop bullshitting around. Get the finger out. Sign up. Write the post. Start the best journey of your life. Prepare to be committed to a fundamental change, and you will reap the rewards.
Take the leap – you won’t regret it. You will look back in a few months and be glad you finally took the chance. Now is the time to become a healthier you – not just transforming your eating habits but your mindset. You are entirely transforming yourself as a person.
10 – How confident are you that you can now take everything you’ve learned with us and continue to be successful on your own?
I have worked not only on the outside this past year but also on the inside.
I have changed my beliefs.
I changed my habits.
I changed my identity.
I am a new person.
That is why I can maintain these results for life.
I am a healthier person.
I am a positive person.
And my weight plays a part in all these things, so why wouldn’t I want to continue doing what I am doing to keep feeling this way??
11 – What else would you like to say about your time with us?
Simply a THANK YOU for everything 🥰
